Basement Renovation Maximizes Living Space

Imagine having a really big unused space in your home and you just don’t know what to do with it.

That’s the basement for a lot of people.

Whether it’s dark and dingy, packed to the ceiling with memories, or an empty space barely more than a concrete slab, renovating your basement is one of the most life-changing investments you can make.

We recently completed a walk-out basement in Davidson, NC, that transformed more than 1,700 sq ft and our client’s way of living.

With only roughed-in plumbing, we got to work on making the lower level a true retreat. A media area, plenty of room to play pool, a restaurant-worthy bar, additional bedroom and bath – we made it all happen!

Descending, guests are delivered directly to the bar, (cheers!) which has everything you need and nothing you don’t; the efficient use of space includes a Whirlpool undermount beverage center.

The quartz countertops keep spill-worries to a minimum and makes clean-up a breeze.  A ledge stone veneer backsplash anchors the TV and wall shelving, and washes a waterfront-bar feel over guests; you definitely want to dock here for a while.

The same stone is used on the half wall that defines the space between the media area and the pool table room. The half wall also features the complementary clean lines of gray-painted shiplap.

The half wall cut-outs provide additional counter surfaces, eliminating the need for a table, and create more space for the clients to pull-off their best pool shots. With the exception of carpet in the bedroom and ceramic precious Calcutta tile in the bathroom, Mannington Restoration woodland maple mist hardwood was used throughout the space. It’s a great choice for the incoming outdoor foot traffic, and can take the heat from the natural light that shines through the double-hinged doors that open to the expansive rear yard.

The bedroom comfortably captures overflow guests from upstairs or is perfect for the kids to nap.

The additional bathroom offers privacy for overnight guests, while maintaining a convenient proximity to the bar for day-visitors. And, just like the bar, it’s all class – a semi-frameless shower enclosure and Moen Kyvos chrome fixtures bring a glam touch and hold their own against the 3-sconce lighting fixture.
