PERFECTLY PLACED PERGOLA

Every challenge is an opportunity to find a creative solution, something that, over the years, Grainda Builders has developed a knack for. On a recent renovation project that challenge came from a unique source, the sun.

At Grainda Builders, we pride ourselves on our ability to listen and adapt. Our mission is to create spaces that not only look good, but also function well for our clients’ lifestyles. This philosophy was put into action in a recent addition, where we turned an inconvenience into an asset as a part of a whole-home renovation.

“One of the best parts about helping our clients create a master plan for their renovation is talking through some of the things they have experienced living in their home over the years,” shares Jason. “Our team loves the challenge of finding unique ways to improve the space or solve a specific problem.”

This particular project was born out of such a problem. The client’s western-facing home suffered from intense sunlight every summer, making the kitchen unbearable during certain periods. “The sun would come down and blind anyone standing in the kitchen of the home,” Jason explains. The client was not able to use the kitchen how they liked, having to avoid the area at certain times each day because of the sun.

A Perfectly Placed Pergola

Our solution? “We came up with the perfectly placed pergola design to help block the sun as it is coming down and provide some reprieve from the intense sunlight,” says Jason.

While this creative solution vastly improved the client’s experience, it also serves as a reminder of our approach to renovations.

“Whenever we do a whole house remodel, we always want to ask those questions about what works for your current home and what doesn’t,” Jason notes. “Then we decide if we can come up with a creative solution that enhances the enjoyment of the home.”

Turning Problems into Possibilities

What sets Grainda Builders apart is how we integrate the lived experience of a home into its transformation. Jason elaborates, “When building a new house, you haven’t experienced it. You don’t have the “lived experience.” When we do a renovation, we enhance it based on how the owner has experienced the home — the detailed nuances. We don’t fix what isn’t broken.”

This pergola project is a testament to our dedication to understanding and improving our clients’ experiences. By listening, adapting, and innovating, we turned a problem into a beautiful, functional solution.
